The main square of Tirana called the Skanderbeg Square, or Sheshi Skenderbej, and is a vast expanse of asphalt, where you have to dodge, since they drive like maniacs. Both Mercedes and plastic cars
The square was large, even before World War II, but the communists made it absolutely huge, which they do not fell back to the old bazaar way to clean up.
Construction started in 1958, but the pompous Palace of Culture was built with Russian help. When relations between the Albanian and the Soviet Union deteriorated, the project leader, a Soviet engineer commissioned to collect all blueprints and leave the country.
Chinese experts had to be called in to do the job. Today the square contains the Opera and the National Library.

Other attractions here include the imposing red brick of the National Bank, the Et'hem Bey Mosque and the statue of Skanderbeg.
The city of Tirana has big plans in mind, to improve with a green and pedestrianized square and 80m-high buildings, which form the core of the city should accentuate, new shops, offices, apartments and a cinema. Center in the coming years
