Dating back more than 200 years, Fru Haugans is the oldest hotel in Northern Norway. In 1794 a farmer's son and captain obtained royal consent to run a guesthouse and to engage in commerce. Mrs Ellen Haugan bought the hotel in 1885 and it has remained in the family ever since. The old, congenial lounges and buildings are permeated with a special atmosphere.The hotel is situated in the famous old street of Sjøgata in the centre of town, and has been enlarged and modernized over the years. For keen anglers there is salmon and trout fishing in the river bordering the beautiful, spacious grounds.
