The famous Norwegian author and playwright Henrik Ibsen was born in Skien in 1828. In 1835 the family moved out to the farm Venstøp, some kilometers north of town, and stayed there for 7 years. The childhood home of Ibsen, along with the English-style gardens, is now converted into a museum and makes a worthwhile excursion for the whole family. The museum comprises also a multimedia exhibition and a café.
