Singapore: Travelling & Vacation

Singapore is officially called the Republic of Singapore. It is a Southeast Asian city-state at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. Singpore is 137 kilometers (85 mi) north of the equator. The country is almost entirely urbanized with very little original rainforest. There is more land created through land reclamation. This is also for construction.

Singapore hosted a trading post of the East India Company in 1819 with permission from the Sultanate of Johor. They acquired sovereignty over the island in 1824 from Great Britain which resulted in the city being British Straits Settlements which were established in 1826.

During the Japanese occupation in World War II, Singapore was declared independent and to unite with other former British territories to form Malaysia in 1963. Two years later it was again separated from Malaysia. Since then they have found an enormous increase of wealth instead. Singapore is the world's fourth largest financial center and the harbor is one of the five busiest ports in the world. The economy depends heavily on exports and refining imported goods, especially in manufacturing, which forms 26% of the GDP of Singapore.

Singapore is a parliamentary republic with a multi-party tracts. The People's Action Party won every election since self-government in 1959, and has as its basic motto: a strong state and prioritizing collective welfare of individual rights such as freedom of speech.

If you go on holiday to Singapore, make sure your purse is well filled. It is an expensive country. With a little money, the traveler can enjoy themselves in many various events and attractions. Since 1990 the government does a lot of arts and sports whichis increasingly being promoted. Most importantly, the greatest pastime of Singaporeans: food. There is a plethora of restaurants of all types, sizes, cuisines and ranges of price. For the food lovers, this is more than enough of an excuse to travel to Singapore.
