Also named the country of “a thousand lakes”, the Scandinavian country Finland is bordered by Russia on the east, Norway on the north and Sweden on the northeast. It is separated from Estonia by the Finnish Gulf. The capital is Helsinki. The country has over 180.000 lakes all in effect of the Ice Age and 179.584 islands. Finland has over 1.7 million saunas in relation to approximately 5.25 million inhabitants! Three quarters of the land is dominated by forest. At Finland’s northern most point the sun does not set for 73 days during the summer, and does not set for 51 days during the winter.
