About Dordogne

This world renowned area of South-West France forms part of one of the most beautiful and popular regions of France. The north-eastern corner of inland Aquitaine (also often known as Perigord) has a great deal to offer the visitor, as you will discover in this website. 'North of the Dordogne' explores the Dordogne, France, along the Dordogne River and Valley, and also the region to the north of the river.

Chateaux, forests and gardens, beautiful medieval towns and villages, unspoilt countryside, rivers and caves and much more besides are just some of the reasons why this region of south-west France has been attracting visitors for many years.

There are an almost unlimited number of things to see and to discover around the Dordogne, including the renowned Lascaux caves; gardens at Marqueyssac; Sarlat la Caneda (regional centre); Dordogne castles; and the prehistoric caves in the Les Eyzies region in the Vezere Valley, to name only a few of the most widely visited sights.

It is however the places in between these 'Dordogne hot-spots' that will stay longest in your memory, perhaps - the coffee in a small village looking over miles of countryside, or the walk alongside a stream with no-one else in sight. Even during the summer, when visitor numbers are at their greatest, it is very easy to find peaceful, tranquil places to sit and admire the region.

The goal of this site is simply to introduce you to many of the reasons why so many people visit and fall in love with the Dordogne region of France each year.
