About Agder Artist Center
Agder Centre of Arts serve about 200 professional artists in Southern Norway. It was established in 1980 by the two main arts organizations in the region - Norwegian Visual Artists and Norwegian Association of Arts and Crafts. Today there are two full-time employees and several people working with project-specific tasks.
The mission for Agder Regional Center for Arts is to promote arts and artists from the southern region of Norway and facilitate artistic exchanges - crossing geographical and conceptual borders.
The Centre is funded by Aust and Vest Agder Fylker (Counties), the City of Kristiansand and Cultiva (main funding foundation for arts in Kristiansand) + income generated projects initiated by the Centre. The Board is made up of 5 members. 3 represent the two artist organizations and 2 are selected from the open market. The legislative body is the Board of Representatives.
We administer all Public Arts projects in the area and serve as the main Artistic advisor in several private and public real estate development projects. We work with individual artists, arts organizations, educational institutions, private corporations, the public sector, international organizations (i.e. UN), and a variety of business organizations. We aim to be the leader of the contemporary arts business in Norway and become a key international partner for the private and public sector. We pride ourselves in being accessible, daring, traditional, professional and fun.
Agder Centre of Arts is located downtown Kristiansand in a historic old school house. The interior was recently completely renovated and it shows itself today as one of the city´s most attractive places to present art. The space, previously used as the home of the old schools janitor, classrooms and finally a gallery, is today used to present artists, projects and art for contemplation and for sale.
