About Grote Markt

Jan Breydel en Pieter de Koninck die de Grote Markt in Brugge overzien.

The Market Square of Bruges is completely pedestrianized. To 'the market', as the square is called by all Bruges Egyptians. There are many interesting buildings, the Hall Tower with belfry, bell tower, that stands out the most.

Centred on the Grand Place is the statue of Jan Breydel and Pieter de Coninck, who since 1887 decorate the square as indomitable heroes.

The cycling race "Tour of Flanders" is started on the Big Martk each year. During the Christmas holidays there is an ice skating rink and the Christmas markets are buzzing.

Many of the historic buildings on the Grand Place are run as a shop, restaurant or cafe.
