Ilfracombe rises around a dramatic natural harbour on Devon's rugged north coast, where Damien Hirst's towering Verity statue has stood watch over the water since 2012. Once a Victorian sea-bathing resort, the town still trades on that legacy with a fine spread of hotels overlooking the bay. Wind down its steep, winding streets and you'll find cosy cafes and a handful of well-loved restaurants serving up freshly caught seafood.
