Keighley grew up in the Aire Valley as a mill town, and though the last of the great textile factories have long since fallen quiet, the terraced streets still carry that industrious, no-nonsense West Yorkshire character. Visitors tend to linger over a proper brew in one of the town's cafes, then round out the day with a meal at one of its restaurants or a night at a local hotel. It's an unpretentious base for exploring the wider Pennine countryside.
