Stone earned its name from the Augustinian priory that once stood here, and today the town's Trent and Mersey Canal towpaths make for one of the most pleasant walks in Staffordshire, especially past the moored narrowboats near the marina. Between wanders, settle into one of the local cafes for a proper cup of tea, or book a stay at one of the hotels if you're passing through on a longer canal trip.
