About Camping La Jaurie
In the Limousin, surrounded by green hills, you will find la Jaurie…, a lovely hamlet of three former farms, situated on a hilltop overlooking 12 hectares of pasture, woods and a stream. At la Jaurie we devote ourselves to art, ecological construction and nature. To share these things with you, we invite you to come and stay at our campsite or in our cottage.
la Jaurie is situated 35km southwest of Limoges and about 80 km northeast of Périgueux, just across the Dordogne/Limousin border. It is set in rural countryside, featuring peace and quiet, unspoiled views and sleepy hamlets. Nature is on the doorstep. There are roe-deer, all manner of birds and many remarkable plants, such as wild orchids. And all of this in a rolling landscape of pastures with the red Limousin cattle, forests where oak and sweet chestnut abound, and many small and large lakes, known locally as “étangs”.
The climate is pleasant; lovely warm summers with a shower now and then to help you to cool off. The changing landscape is wonderful to explore on foot or on a bicycle. And for a refreshing swim, there are always the “étangs” waiting to tempt you in.
Features of cultural interest include castles, summer festivals, galleries of modern and traditional art, and historic towns such as Châlus (of Richard Cœur de Lion fame) and St Yrieix la Perche. Limoges, the nearest large town, offers a wide choice of shops, restaurants and summer activities.
