Indonesia consists of more than 18,000 islands. The republic is situated between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. The capital of Indonesia is Jakarta.
Indonesia is a wonderful holiday destination. Not only because of the friendly people, but because of the nature. The richness of the flora and fauna in Indonesia is huge and breath taking.
The deforestation of the 140 million hectares of tropical rainforest is a result of both population growth and partly by the revenue from tropical hardwood. The natural beauty of the country is being threatened. Although the country only covers 1.3% of the earth's surface, you will have 10% of the earths flowering population and 12% of all mammals that occur on Earth. Of reptiles and amphibians it is 15% and even 25% for fish. The number of bird species is also enormous, just alone on the island of Irian Jaya are more than 600 species of birds. Its basically a variety of living wonders blended into one great holiday experience
In 2006, unknown species of frogs, tree kangaroos and butterflies were found by scientists in New Guinea.
As famous landmarks, the following are mentioned:
Borobudur Temple Complex *
* National Park Ujung Kulon
* Komodo National Park
* Prambanan temples
In addition to the Rainforest and Lake Toba Sumatra, there are many major attractions in Bali and if you go you will see some of the many temples it has to offer.
In the capital Jakarta on Java island it is crowded and chaotic, as it is in all Asian capitals. However, there are plenty of dining options, just like everywhere else in Indonesia even for the younger visitors there are also several clubs, bars and cafés.
Travel to Indonesia is ideal for cultural and nature lovers, but at various locations in Java and also in Bali, the younger people will be able to have a great holiday!
