Elgin has watched over the Moray coast since the 12th century, its ruined cathedral once earning the nickname "Lantern of the North" for the light that spilled from its windows across the countryside. Today the old cobbled lanes lead visitors past whisky warehouses and independent shops to a welcoming mix of cafes for a pause between sightseeing and hotels offering a comfortable base for exploring Speyside beyond.
