City: Paramaribo

Information

The cathedral of Paramaribo is the largest wooden building in the Caribbean. The first Catholic Church was a house that did service as such. He was taken around 1787 to use, and must have been at the beginning. Of the Wagenwegstraat He was lost in the fire of 1821.

This building is the most striking example of a translation of 19th-century neo-Romanesque and neo-Gothic style attributes in traditional Surinamese forms. The church building itself represents the romanesque revival, the towers and carry a neo-Gothic character.

However, the thin wooden constructions are generally so emphatically, that the building still remains very closely related to the elderly, according to the same traditions built examples of monumental architecture Surinam.
