The United States, officially United States of America, abbreviated USA (English: United States of America, abbreviated U.S. or USA) is a federation of 50 North American states and the District of Columbia. Two states, Alaska and Hawaii, are separate and not included with other states. The country also has several islands in the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean.

The United States is the third largest country in the world, in population after China and India, also the fourth largest country in area, after Russia, Canada and China. There is still debate about who is greater, the USA or China.

The capital of the USA is Washington.
