About Stapelhaus
This building on the Rhine bank recalls Cologne's staple right, under which all goods arriving by water had to be stored and offered for sale here. The original house served as a fish-trading hall and, because it stood within the city wall, was given the form of a crenellated fortress. After its destruction in the war it was rebuilt in the 1960s, preserving one of the octagonal towers.
